Reflexology
Reflexology is an increasingly popular, deeply relaxing therapy based on the theory that reflex points in the hands and feet represent different areas in the body. By using gentle techniques similar to massage, I am able to stimulate these reflex points in order to provide symptomatic relief from many conditions and injuries.
Face Reflexology and Massage
A heavenly combination of upper body massage covering the back, neck, shoulders and arms, followed by a deeply relaxing face reflexology and massage using a gorgeous Neals Yard Balm.
Ideal for anyone feeling tense or stressed and is especially beneficial for those struggling with sinus issues or migraine and tension headaches.
Hot Stone Reflexology
Hot Stone Reflexology is very similar, however; as well as using my hands to work the reflex points, warm basalt pebbles of different sizes are also used to massage and stimulate the reflexes in the hands and feet. In Hot Stone Reflexology, I work right up to the knee rather than just the feet and ankles; this treatment is extremely relaxing and is especially effective for runners, walkers or anyone who spends a lot of time on their feet.
Sports and Remedial Massage
The term ‘Sports Massage’ is actually quite misleading, as anyone – not just the sporty – can benefit from a Sports Massage. A Sports or Remedial Massage is a deep tissue massage that involves the use of many different Soft Tissue Therapy techniques such as;
- Soft Tissue Release
- Muscle Energy Technique
- Neuromuscular Technique
- Friction Techniques
- Myofascial Techniques
- Positional Release Technique
The treatment will also generally include a postural assessment, nutrition advice and rehabilitation exercises.
Kinesiology taping
Kinesiology taping is a great way to support injured or weakened muscles, reduce swelling or support unstable or weakened joints. It is particularly effective when treating conditions such as:
- Plantar Faciitis
- Shin Splints
- Ankle Sprains
- Knee Pain
- Hamstring/Calf Strain
- Back Pain
- Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy
- Tennis/Golfer's Elbow
- Controlling Oedema(swelling) in any area
Kinesiology taping is most effective when used in conjunction with other soft tissue techniques, however it can also be used alone.
Symptoms relieved
Each of these therapies can provide symptomatic relief from a multitude of conditions and injuries including:
- Sports injuries
- Repetitive strain injury
- Postural problems
- Back pain
- Migraine
- Digestive issues
- Insomnia
- Stress related symptoms
- Infertility
- Endometriosis/fibroids
- Hormone imbalances
What your treatment will involve
Sports and Remedial Massage
After your initial consultation and postural assessment, which usually takes 15 – 20 minutes, you will be asked to lie on a massage couch.
Due to the nature of massage, you will be asked to keep your underwear on. Unlike a spa massage, a Sports Massage means you will be asked to move around on the couch as we work on different areas. Towels will be used to cover you and make you feel warm and comfortable.
Despite what you may have heard, Soft Tissue Therapy should never be painful. If there is an injury we are working on, there may be times of discomfort as we work to improve range of movement and strength, but you will never be pushed beyond your limits. Deep tissue massage is often described as a ‘good’ pain, and by the end of the treatment you should feel both energised and relaxed.
The areas covered in a massage completely depend on the nature of the reason for your visit, so the massage is really tailored to each individual.
Excluding the initial consultation time, massage treatments are available in 1 hour appointments.
Reflexology/Hot Stone Reflexology
After your initial consultation, which usually takes about 15 minutes, you will be asked to sit in a comfortable chair, similar in style to a sun lounger. Please wear loose trousers so that they can be rolled up as far as the knee.
After cleansing the feet, a balm will be applied and the treatment will begin.
Using gentle movements with my fingers, thumbs and hands I will then begin a sequence of movements that will cover the entire foot. It’s a lovely feeling and many people fall asleep.
The treatment will last approximately 1 hour, and afterwards you will be offered a drink of water and we will discuss my findings and the next course of action.
If you are looking for a truly restorative experience that tackles the physical and hormonal aspects of your condition, then I highly recommend booking a Hot Stone Reflexology Session immediately after a Sports Massage. The combination of the two therapies is deeply relaxing and will tackle any issue: particularly stress related conditions and menopausal aching.
“I found Emma after suffering with migraines and wanting to look at different ways to manage them other than medication. Emma has been attentive, and a great listener and I always come out of a reflexology session feeling energised and relaxed. I have reduced the amount of medication I take and believe that the reflexology sessions with Emma are a large part of managing my migraine symptoms. I would highly recommend her services!”
